Choosing a Doula
2009 June 15
In many cultures, the employment of a non-medical person to assist the birth mother (particularly in the post-partum stage) is a normal occurrence. In Asian cultures particularly, there are women who may be employed to cook special meals for the birth mother to ensure good health and a quick return to pre-pregnancy vitality as well as ensuring that the baby is well nourished. In Australia, the employment of such a person (commonly referred to as a Doula) to assist in birth-related matters is a relatively recent phenomenon.
