What is Hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is a personalised childbirth education programme for expectant couples. You will learn a range of relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques to let go of fears and focus on maintaining a calm, relaxed and positive attitude both before and during the birthing.
You can use the Hypnobirthing approach whether you are having your baby at home, in hospital, or at a birthing centre.
Hypnobirthing – A Labour of Love
Hypnobirthing is based on the premise that childbirth is a normal and natural event. It should not be a frightening experience, nor should it be unduly painful.
A woman’s body is genetically programmed to give birth on its own and a normal pregnancy will never produce a baby that is too big for her to give birth to.

Giving Birth can be Naturally Pain-Free
No other species on the planet requires assistance to give birth (let alone educational classes, hospitals or specialised caregivers). This is because every other species is working at an innate level of understanding, instinctively following the gentle urgings of their own bodies.
We too are programmed with this same innate ability to give birth. Ironically, it is our intellectual superiority that interferes with the intuitive process of birth - we humans literally ‘over-think’ the process – not trusting our bodies we become stressed and fearful as a result.
Your Mind is a Powerful Tool
From the moment that a woman learns she is pregnant, she begins to intellectualise the process: reading about the various options for birthing; soliciting opinions and advice from others; taking on board the (often negative) experiences of mothers, sisters and friends as being normal and expected. So begins the steady process of negatively programming the mind.
An important ‘Law of the Mind’ states that for every thought there is a corresponding physical reaction. Constantly playing out negative, worst-case scenarios in your mind, programs the body to expect the worst and to begin preparing for it. An in-built biofeedback system known as the ‘Fight or Flight’ response comes into play whenever we find ourselves in a frightening situation.
