Sally’s story

Hi Julie,

Wayne and I wanted to give you some great feedback on our Hypnobirthing experience. Our little girl Ella Rose was born 7 weeks ago, very healthy and very happy! As for us, our childbirth experience was amazing: drug-free and relatively pain-free.

I woke up in labour at 3am and by 7.30am I was ready to go to hospital. I was examined at 8.30am I was already 8cm dilated. Ella’s delivery was delayed as she was facing the wrong way, but she was eventually born at 2.30pm.

The breathing techniques were so effective with the contractions and helped me keep my energy, even when I had to hold on to see if Ella would turn. On reflection, I can see how anxiety can lead to pain. When I was still at home, unsure of what was normal and a bit anxious about when I should go to hospital, I was experiencing pain with the contractions. But when I was at the hospital, I felt very calm and experienced no pain , just pressure. In fact, I have attached a photo Wayne took of me when I was 9cm dilated – it was amazing. I felt so energized and I remember saying to him – “I feel like I could do this all day“!

Ella was an extremely alert baby when delivered and has remained healthy and settled.

Thank you very much for your sessions. I am the first of my friends who found childbirth enjoyable and felt that if I had to, I could go back and do it again the next day!!

Kind Regards,

Sally S

Kirsty’s Story

Dear Julie,

will

Just a quick note to let you know that our HypnoBirthing experience was amazing, rewarding beautiful, drug-free, stress-free & pain-free!

Will was birthed in just under 5 hours with no interventions & with minimal assistance from the midwife.
He was 4.4 kg, nearly 10 pounds and has been a contented, happy baby, which I attribute to his birth experience.

Thanks,

Kirsty

Linda’s Story

I wanted to write something to tell you how hypnobirthing worked for me and how valuable it was for all of us.

By the time I went into labour it was an integral part of my thoughts and feelings about birth and it was this that was one of the most valuable aspects of the training.

I had a look back over the basic criteria of hypnobirthing and compared it’s aims to my experience and I can see how well it worked. The most valuable part of doing the classes was the Fear – Tension – Pain thing. After doing the classes and just living day by day with the knowledge of what my body was going to do in order to give birth, I was totally prepared. All the way through the birth (which was five hours – induced with prostyn yet )

I knew exactly what was doing on and was visualizing what my uterus and baby were doing without even thinking about it. I had no fear and was able to focus on areas of my body that required relaxation at different stages of the birth.

I didn’t have to think about it, it was just habit from the weeks of practicing.

I felt the pressure and I felt pain but the reason for this was that we hadn’t fully practiced the whole hypnobirthing package as I don’t think my husband was really comfortable with the scripts, so I did the training on my own, without asking him to join me.

One of the reasons this was OK with me was because I suspected I would not want to drift off into visualizations as I have a tendency to want to be in there up to my elbows when there’s a job to be done. I was right. As soon as I thought about going to my quiet room in my mind during the birth, I rejected it and abandoned myself to the experience. I was able to think clearly about all sorts of things, including other friends labours? I was able to communicate easily with my husband and the midwife and keep a very clear head.

My mind was totally at ease while my body did the work.

Steven never left my side and he kept up physical contact with me the entire time, mostly by doing the light touch massage on my lower back. He kept reminding me about my breathing and keeping me focused on relaxing.

He easily picked up when I wasn’t doing it properly and chose his reminders well so they weren’t hollow words but timely and well appreciated. I felt very well supported by a husband who was calm and confident and knew what my body was doing. There was no fear or angst in that room at all.

Although he didn’t do the scripts and I didn’t do the visualization, the whole Hypnobirthing experience worked wonderfully for us all and I was able to think about the little baby inside me and treat her as gently as I could on her way out.

I followed the midwife’s instructions to push even though I know this was not the hypnobirthing way and, in hindsight, can remember how my body really was surging on its own and would not have required any conscious pushing on my part! But the midwife was excellent.

So I chose a path that allowed me to feel pain but it was VERY bearable and it was all about muscles moving and doing what they should.

They say induced labours may be more painful/intense than naturally occurring labours and if that’s true, then the latter really doesn’t have to be the painful experience you hear people talking about. I had a few puffs of gas basically because I could and admit that this combined with the breathing took all the pain away and just allowed the pressure to be felt…

It was the most wonderful day of our lives when we had Abbey I would not have missed the experience for anything and still look back on it with amazement and lots of emotion. It’s one big good memory and I will hold onto it rather than forget it as a lot of mum have said they have done.

For the record, although I was induced because I was 10 days overdue, Abbey cam out fresh and covered in vernix. The midwife took one look at her and said there was no way she was overdue, rather, she was a bit premature or more likely, smack on what we expect as 40 weeks. I felt my body gearing up for birth for the past week so it would have all gone well if I hadn’t allowed myself to be induced.

Thank you for the hypnobirthing classes. I am very glad we came to you and so very happy with the outcome.

Kindest regards

Linda W.

Lisa’s Story

Dear Julie,

ditch

Thank you for teaching us hypnobirthing. Ditch’s birth came after only a 3 1/2 labour and the hypnobirthing experience was amazing!

I am appreciative of having had the skills for his birth, but I am also appreciative of having them now he is part of our lives – it means that I know how to achieve a totally relaxed state quickly, which is great for snatching short periods to recharge the batteries! Ditch is truly a delight, and we are grateful for the role you played in his birth.

Kind regards
